A Second Book, Video Interviews, Journal Entries Revealed

With snippets of information here and there, I figured it was high time to give more details about what’s been going on in the realm of Running in Silence and future writing/speaking endeavors. Honestly, I’ve just been way too busy, so I’m trying to carve more time into my day to work on writing, speaking, and YouTube videos. THANK YOU to all of you who have supported me/followed my journey so far!

I’m about to embark on a video interviewing spree, which will include talking with my parents (separately, as they offer differing perspectives), men with eating disorders, and possibly my coach from Aquinas. Check out my YouTube channel (Running in Silence) for extra videos (and be sure to subscribe!). I will keep you in the loop on those upcoming videos via social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter). In the meantime, be sure to comment below (or email me at runninginsilence@gmail.com) if you have questions you’d like me to ask the interviewees!

Speaking Engagements

I will be speaking at First (Park) Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan this coming Monday May 15, 7-8pm, focusing on topics of acceptance, identity, fear, and balance, all of which were issues I struggled with THROUGH the lens of food. These are especially important concepts when looking at recovery. For other upcoming presentations check out the Speaking Appearances Page (and see video below for the most recent presentation at CMU).

Upcoming Book!?

As for an upcoming book, I have completed a second, and I am currently in the process of editing and revising it. It can be seen as a sequel to Running in Silence, but I believe it could also stand alone. More details to be revealed through social media in the upcoming months. Again, I’m trying to carve more time in the day to work on this, because I am looking forward to this one. :)

An additional project includes reading through all of my ORIGINAL journal entries I wrote through my eating disorder journey. There are about 600 typed pages of those, so I’m pulling out the most interesting/important entries (that are not revealed in the Running in Silence) to create an additional ebook. This is a project on the side at this point, but I think it’s important to have an option to see the FULL story with unedited details and extra events/races not included in the book. It certainly won’t go through the same intense editing process that Running in Silence required.

As for my daily life in eating disorder recovery, I am the happiest I have ever been. I have amazing relationships. I feel excited for each day. I do have “bad” days, but I have what I call a “core happiness” that keeps me hopeful and smiling. I feel like myself–more than I ever have in my life. I think I’m fun, creative, and interesting. I think other people are fascinating and have such important stories to share. I have so much more sympathy and empathy for others.
I don’t write as much about what’s going on in my life at the moment. As a friend stated over tea recently, “You’re too busy living life right now to write about what’s going on, and that’s beautiful.”
I’m cherishing everything, and I can’t wait for you to get to that spot, too.

  1. Rachael, good for you on all counts. I’m looking forward to seeing you both on what I hope will be a combination speaking tour/break for you (at least you know you’ve been invited to a party with naked llamas).

Keep up the good work, and one question: Are you still interviewing Isaac and me for YouTube while you’re here?

    • Rachael says:

We cannot WAIT!! Especially for that party with naked llamas ;)

And thank you! YES we are interviewing you and Isaac for YouTube!!
